Primary Seeds: Providing links to keeping our local food heritage

How will your food be available to you? Where will you get the seeds for your garden in the future?
Already our local climate changes are affecting our food resources here in eastern Kansas and globally. Everyday, the use of locally adapted food seeds is being lost. It is our choice to change this. It is time to better plan ahead, in our changing everyday lives. Continuing the links that keep our local food heritage vital is important. Our food plants come to us through thousands of years of safekeeping in the hands of our ancestors. The seeds are a gift to us from the past...a living legacy. What we do with them will affect our grandchildren's grandchildren.
Today’s vegetable and fruit heritage comes from the whole world. Locally, our seeds are from the traditions of the Scotch, Irish, French, Dutch, Shawnee, Pawnee, African, Cherokee, Sioux and German peoples...to name only a few! Learning to grow your own food, to save your seeds, to plant Co-Creatively (gardening with the help of Earth’s spirits, creators and gods from numerous traditions), or to “read” your favorite seeds are a few of the topics on which I have information to share. Additionally, I have many rare heirloom seeds to share. These have been adapted over hundreds of years to our Central Great Plains area. Many of the seeds need consistent growers in order to stay alive and available.
